Why UF and Not UV? Understanding the Difference
Both UF and UV technologies address biological contaminants — but they work very differently, and UF is the superior choice for comprehensive water purification.
UltraFiltration (UF) physically removes bacteria, viruses, parasites, and microorganisms from the water using a precision hollow fiber membrane. The bodies of contaminants are captured and retained in the filter — they are gone from your water entirely. UF works without electricity, operates at low or no water pressure, works effectively even with turbid water, requires no chemical intervention, and is economical and easy to replace.
UltraViolet (UV) sterilizes water by exposing it to UV light that disrupts microbial DNA — killing bacteria and viruses but leaving their bodies in the water. UV requires electricity to operate, is ineffective on turbid water, does not remove dissolved impurities such as pesticides, arsenic, or fluoride, does not soften hard water, and provides no indication of whether it is functioning correctly.
